The house is located in northern Sardegna in close proximity to the tourist destination, Porto Rotondo. Originally constructed in the early 20th century the building is emblematic of the regional architecture. In the 1970’s the structure was converted into a vacation home and in 2005 the owners desired the building’s refurbishment without altering its essential character: the original volume and sloping roof. The intervention foresees the creation of a new interior layout that, according to the client’s needs, allows for more fluid spaces and enhanced continuity with the surrounding vegetation. The preservation of the house’s original aesthetic is achieved through the implementation of local materials and construction solutions, including cement flooring, terra cotta, and Sardinian tiles, innovatively utilized in wall fixtures. The new windows in these spaces provide increased natural light and further aeration within the rooms that, together with the voluminous, granite walls, guarantee optimal insulation conditions, thereby rendering the need for artificial cooling obsolete.
