Low Energy House - Design Competition

Villanterio is a small town in the outskirts of Pavia in Lombardy (Italy), which extends on the banks of the the Lambro river, surrounded by a natural landscape and farming lands. The client wishes to create new residential complex next to an existing windmill. The complex is composed of 4 habitat units, conceived for young families.  The client’s limited budget, keen environmental sensibility and difficulty in connecting to local electrical network pushed toward the implementation of an off-grid system,  a pre-fabricated constructive system that boasts energetically self-sufficiency. Even with these criteria, which generate an apparently rigid and compact constructive system, the new courtyard layout offers each unit  airy interiors  and the exclusive use of exterior spaces: a large garden on the ground floor and a terrace accessed from the bedrooms.
